Yulia Brodskaya is an author of a book Painting with Paper: Paper on the edge, and internationally highly regarded paper artist and illustrator. Using just paper and glue for materials and paper quilling technique (artform that involves ‘the placement of carefully cut and bent strips of paper – to make lush, vibrant, three-dimensional paper artworks’) Brodskaya creates impressive portraits with incredible detail. Her unique work made her a long list of corporate clients such are Starbucks and the New York Times. Still, being busy never stopped her from expending her portrait series. The UK-based artist has a great Facebook account where she shows her creative process, from sketched figures on a blackboard to meticulous work with rolled-up strips of paper. Brodskaya gets frequently invited to speak at design conferences and design schools around the world and if you want to hear from her you have a chance this September when she’ll be speaking at the ‘Reasons To’ – conference in Brighton.

Insane detail. The number of folded paper and the way its placed! Mind-blowing!
“Paper always held a special fascination for me. I’ve tried many deferent methods and techniques of working with it, until I found the way that has turned out to be ‘the one’ for me: now I draw with paper instead of on it”.
