Photographer Finds Mice Family in his Garden and Builds them a Tiny Village

Simon Dell is an amazing human being; a photographer with great love and respect for wildlife. In this case an adorable family of mice. A couple of peanuts was all that took for his friendly mouse to gain his trust. Soon another mouse came out and Simon realized there might be an entire family he needs to protect. Simon fell in love the moment he saw mouse he named George standing up like a meerkat in the grass. “I piled some small logs around a box as a home for the mouse and covered it with moss and straw to give him a little shelter,” Simon explains how he started his miniature village. “I then put up some wire fencing along the fence so there was no way the cats could get to the mouse. I also have a small Jack Russell Terrier dog so the cats know not to come in the garden and the dog pays the mice no attention. I decided to build them home as I wanted to give them a safe place in the garden and not fall prey to cats or other animals. I added more space and made it ready for a cold winter, giving the mice the best chance possible to survive. I have counted around 5 or more mice and the female, and she seemed pregnant, and mice can have up to 14 babies. The food I give them is usually all natural.” As the winter came Simon had another great idea. “I also give them handfuls of feathers from an old pillow and they take that to line their beds inside and keep them warm on these cold UK winter nights.” Visit mouse George’s Facebook page if you would like to track his ongoing life adventures at the amazing garden la Simon Dell.

Simon found mouse George just standing tall in fresh cut grass just like a meerkat

Soon another mouse came out and introduced himself to Simon

Simon said, well I guess I need to build you guys more rooms and bring you more food.

It took few days and there was an entire family of mice in his tiny mouse house

Simon thought, well I guess I’ll need to build a fence to protect you from cats,

And build you of course a tiny village so could live here happily ever after.

Then the winter came and the coldness struck hard!

But Simon was ready with handfuls of feathers from an old pillow

Now they have warm beds and winter is no threat to them anymore
