The Renaissance is a term used to identify the period of European history between the end of the 14th century and the middle of the 16th century. Artists from a site called Worth1000 (now named Design Crowd) had the idea to create a Photoshop competition to recreate the famous paintings from the Renaissance period with a modern turn. Namely, the paintings were to be photoshopped with the faces of celebrities of the 21st century instead of the original ones, thus, creating Modern Renaissance. Although the competition is named Modern Renaissance, participants used their creative freedom and used paintings that do not belong to the Renaissance. However, the final product even if it isn’t from the era blends into it seamlessly. Among the many submissions, you will find work from many art periods including Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassicism to name a few. From Keanu Reeves as Dubufe’s Madame F to Leonardo DiCaprio and Sylvester Stallone as Rembrandt in one of his various Self-Portraits, these Photoshop masters tampered with the greatest artworks in history to create something very entertaining, and allowed us to see how our favorite stars would look like if they were painted by the stars of old.
