We’ve covered ‘chickens in love portraits‘ and also ‘DIY knitted sweaters for chickens‘, and now it’s time for the most glorious pigeons in the world. Pigeons might be the first birds ever to be domesticated by humans, dating at least 4500 years BC. They are masters at navigating, capable to return to their nest that is 1.3k miles (2.1k kilometers) far away. Even if they were taken away from the nest not knowing the direction they’ve come from, they would still find their way back home. Ancient Greeks even used to train pigeons to carry the results of the Olympics, but now prepare for some weird pigeon trivia. Nikola Tesla had something you can call as an affair with a pigeon, or at least a super-powerful bond. When Tesla stayed in a hotel room in NYC he took time to take care of an injured wild pigeon and even said: “I loved that pigeon, I loved her as a man loves a woman and she loved me. When she was ill, I knew and understood; she came to my room and I stayed beside her for days. I nursed her back to health. That pigeon was the joy of my life. If she needed me, nothing else mattered. As long as I had her, there was a purpose in my life.” If it gave Tesla a purpose in life, then I mean, I don’t know what I mean after this strange quote. Pigeons are awesome!
