World Record – Longest Glass-Bottom Bridge on a Planet

Only for the brave; the longest glass-bottom bridge in the world (confirmed by the Guinness World Records) is located in China’s Huangchuan Three Gorges Scenic Area and it’s designed by the Chinese studio – Architectural Design & Research Institute of Zhejiang University. The bridge spreads 526 meters (1725 ft.) across the gorge, 201 meters (689 ft.) above the Lianjiang River in Guangdong Province. Red towers meet the ends of the bridge on both sides, while the transparent glass-deck is 8.8 m (29 ft.) wide. The 3 layers of 4.5 cm thick tempered laminated glass are connected with steel railings and divided into 4 large sections, completely transparent for the visitors to gaze upon the river below and take pictures of the moments they’ll never forget. The deck is suspended with cables and at the same time, it can withstand 500 people completely safely. “Through blending the structure into the natural surroundings and deploying innovative construction methods, the design team realized the seamless integration of nature and the artificial.” As you can understand from their statement, the idea was all along to make a bridge as transparent as possible so it would blend in with nature itself. And to fascinate and scare a few folks. The bridge is built as a tourist attraction as well as many before. China has more than 2,300 glass-bridges and the second-longest glass-bridge is also in China – in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and it’s 488 meters long (1601 ft.).
